BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO

Today I did something I vowed I was going to avoid- setting foot in a B&M. Not just any B&M, but MY B&M, the one I have frequented for the past 7 years. That didn't take long......Don't worry, don't worry, I kept my eye on the register and did not veer off course- but unfortunately I had to return a few items. The campo bag (DaniBP I should have gone with the patent!), it was cute but I was not happy with the color. I ordered the beechwood expecting it to be closer to the nude swatch online and it was much more brown than expected. I also returned the cadance necklace- it was strangely stiff and didn't lay very well. My favorite manager was there- she has been with me these past seven years. She has been around to see my daughter go from infant carrier, to toddler, to the kindergartner she is. I have lived through two of her three boys heading off to college. We had our last discussion today about her senior in hs and where he is heading off to college. Sniff, sniff- she will be an empty nester the next time I see her. A whole year- I had to tell her. For a moment I really wanted a hug her or at least promise to send a holiday card. She is very cute and assured me that I will not be forgotten! Today my favorite SA- perhaps tomorrow I should get Mickey and Jenna on the conference call and let them down easy as well. The good news- I made it out package free.
Next order of business. IRL virgin no mas. I have a lot of work to do on the photos. I was in a hurry receiving a tutorial from a good friend at work, and this is what I came up with. I would like to offer up the lame excuse that hubby is out of the country, I had to get the kids out the door along with myself, etc etc.....but here it is. My first outfit of the day. Celebrating fall. I wish I would have worn my vneck tissue in eggplant but I couldn't find it- so instead I have on the Stacy & Clinton NO NO with the big chest- DREAD- a turtleneck. So be it. I LOVE this skirt.

Shirt- J Crew
Skirt- Anthropologie
Boots- Frye Campus

Parting thought- let's hear some SA stories! Do you have a favorite? Ever invite an SA to Thanksgiving dinner?

  1. Last week I saw a favorite SA buying a boyfriend blazer at Marshall's! Good job with the IRL pics!

  2. Oh, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to be wearing turtlenecks with a larger chest.

Congrats on getting out w/out a purchase :-)

SA stories? They are starting to invite me out for drinks or tea, but we haven't crossed the line just yet.

Now tell me about those boots. Please.

  4. You are very brave and good to leave the store empty-handed. Yay! Uh-oh no patent Campo! I wasn't tempted by the others either. I wanted the patent for its durability as well, as in I can take it out in the rain! I'm sure there will be more fab bags in a year's time, doncha worry!
Love the outfit, that is a gorgeous skirt.
No SA stories here, online shopper only!

  5. Kathy- that makes me laugh- an SA buying a boyfriend blazer at Marshalls only confirms my belief that the J crew option at $215 UNLINED is not quite worth it.

Gigi- lol, maybe I should qualify the turtleneck rule is for large chests of a certain age that aren't quite as perky.....visually a turtleneck makes the girls look even lower. As for the Frye boots- I LOVE THEM. The campus boot- comes in some great colors, timeless IMO. It has a pretty narrow shaft so I wear them under jeans and with skirts. They are comfortable too, although I found the sizing to run 1/2 size big. I think they look better with age.

Dani- Sorry, I forgot that it is just you and your mouse up North, no SA in sight. I am still loving your mending kit- I think that you are right. It is going to be a long year- I am sure there will be some mending- maybe even a little darning in my future. (not sure what darning entails but it sounds good).

  6. Once was a time when I considered myself a shopper with the best of you, but my goodness, this lingo that is involved needs some defining. I think you need an abbreviation key to the right for us newbies to the blogging world. SA, IMO, IRL?
I'm proud of you my friend for even attempting this(keeping giggles under my breath from now on.) I never knew you checked out the sale ads in the paper!
Love the first real pic (IRL?), but I don't like your head cut off.

  7. Lynne - SA = sales associate, IMO = in my opinion, IRL = in real life (pic), B&M = bricks & mortar (going to the physical store - not shopping online). Hey, we all had to learn it!!

Woobie - Love love love the skirt - just fab. So impressed with you walking out package free. Last time I tried to do that (I was even under a time crunch to get to school to volunteer in E's class), I still walked out with my velvet flower pin - argh. Stay strong, lady!!

  8. Woobie, you have inspired me! My J. Crew shopping is out of control. I discovered your site last night - went to bed convinced that today would be the start of my one year 'shop my closet' commitment. Then today I order 4 items!!! I'll be cheering you on and hoping that I can also emulate your discipline and self-control.

  10. Heidi G- Thanks for posting the lingo and THANK YOU for the encouraging words. I must confess, it's starting to set-in and I am a little sad....

Anna- you just hang in that contemplative state as long as you need! (And place an order in my honor while you're there).

Molly Darling- Let's stick together!! Welcome aboard the shop free zone- we can do this.
